Department of Natural Resources and the Environment (Greece)
A link to the “Chemistry is All Around Us” project portal was made by the Technological Educational Institute (TEI), Department of Natural Resources and the Environment, of Crete, Branche of Chania (Greece). The Department of Natural Resources and the Environment at the Technological Educational Institute (TEI) of Crete was founded in 1999. It consists of 14 acting faculty members, who are distributed between six research laboratories. The Department of Natural Resources and the Environment has also joined the Chemistry is All Around Us project as Associated Partner.
European Chemistry Thematic Network Association (EU)
The European Chemistry Thematic Network Association is composed by 120 members representing 30 different European countries. Higher education institutions, national chemical societies as well as chemical and software companies are included in the ECTN members. Democritus University of Thrace Medical School (Greece)
The Medical School of Democritus University of Thrace was founded in 1984, it is located in the city of Alexandroupolis in Northern Greece and consists of 162 faculty members. The Laboratory of Hygiene and Environmental Protection in conjunction with the Greek Association of Occupational Medicine and the Environment (GAOME) constitute substructures of Democritus University which promote the role of the novel medicinal specialty of occupational physician in Greece. 2nd Experimental Lyceum of Athens (Greece)
The 2nd Experimental Lyceum of Athens is one of the 18 experimental upper secondary school structures of Greece, located in downtown Athens. Being an experimental school, it engages in the application of novel educational methods for teaching science and technology. Science teachers are chosen after rigorous review and possess at least Masters degree in the area of teaching methodology. The Department of Chemistry and Industrial Chemistry (DCCI) of University of Genoa is involved in many activities regarding research, didactics and the spread of scientific knowledge. The Department is organized in 5 scientific areas: Analytical Chemistry, Physical Chemistry, Inorganic Chemistry and Metallurgy, Industrial Chemistry, Organic Chemistry. The website is dedicated to collect all events and activities that will be organized in Italy to celebrate chemistry during 2011. Chemistry, a Good Choice (Italy)
This website is maintained by Federchimica (Italian Federation of the Chemical Industry) and dedicated to school. Both teachers and students can find information about the world of chemistry and chemical industry and the job of chemist. Morover, the website provides informaton and suggestions to students that are interested to continue to study chemistry at the University. National Educational Portal (Bulgaria)
National Educational Portal is the first serious step to develop a large national system for e-learning of scientific subjects in Bulgarian high schools. The Portal is supported by Bulgarian Ministry of Education, Youth and Science and is addressed to high school and Universities teachers, lecturers and students, people interested in e-learning and education in general. The information published on-line on the portal is easy accessible. The portal is interactive and practically every student could create his own profile. An informational paper about the “Chemistry is all around us” project activities and results was published on portal “News” section. It will contribute to the project popularization and facilitate the access to educational packages provided by the project’s portal will enlarge the number of people interested in chemistry learning and will. E.N.T.E.R.
European Network for Transfer and Exploitation of EU Project Results (E.N.T.E.R.) is a community of institutions and organisations from all over Europe and the largest network in Europe specifically designed for the dissemination of EU project developments and results. The E.N.T.E.R. is a non-profit association officially registered in Austria and is founded to serve four main purposes: To support European Union strategies through the dissemination and valorisation of project results funded by European programmes for the benefit of all European citizens. To offer EU project coordinators the opportunity to disseminate information about their projects and their results to a broad community of interested organisations and bodies. To give European citizens and organisations the opportunity to receive information regularly about developments and results in the EU project community. To give interested organisations the opportunity to find EU project groups and consortia for exchanging knowledge and developing innovative project ideas. By combining networking and the use of efficient IT-based communication tools into a powerful information network, E.N.T.E.R. provides with the opportunity to actively participate in innovative development processes funded by the European Commission.
STELLA
Science Teaching in a Lifelong Learning Approach (STELLA). STELLA is an interactive and multilingual web portal for all people involved in science education who want to communicate experiences, cooperate, exchange ideas and thoughts on teaching methods and approaches. Practices. The website of STELLA gives an opportunity to present our project to colleagues from all over Europe, to share the project’s results and, that way, to cooperate with teachers from other countries by making use of the set of multimedia tools for transferability developed to facilitate the exchange of practices and the transfer of results. The National Technical University of Athens (Greece)
The National Technical University of Athens (NTUA) is the oldest tertiary education institution in Greece, founded in 1836. All departments offer very demanding 5 year study programs which lead directly to a degree equivalent to Master of Engineering. The Department of Chemical Engineering (founded in 1917) currently consists of 84 faculty members divided in four divisions. The division of Chemical Sciences is responsible for offering all chemistry courses to the whole University and at the same time is a leading actor in both basic and applied research. Italian Society of Chemistry (Italy)
The Italian Society of Chemistry (SCI) is associated partner of the Chemistry Is All Around Us Project. The Italian Society of Chemistry (SCI) is the most important organization devoted to popularization, education and dissemination of chemistry in Italy. The web site provides information on events in the field of chemistry as well as on training initiatives and scientific publications. The Division of Chemical Education is devoted to didactic research in the field of chemistry. They are currently promoting the Chemistry Is All Around us Project through the publication of a description of the project itself on their web pages as well as a link to the project portal.
The Scientific Degrees Project (Italy)
The “Scientific Degrees Project” (PLS) started in 2005 as an answer to the dramatic drop of matriculation to scientific degree courses (Chemistry, Mathematics, Physics). It has been realized all over Italy and it consists of initiatives oriented to arise interest for science in students from secondary schools. It is directed at both teachers and students and aims to build a bridge between school and university. The Centre of Administration and Operations of ASCR has joined the Chemistry is All Around Us project as associated partner. The Centre of Administration and Operations of ASCR will contribute to the dissemination and exploitation of the Chemistry is All Around Us project results. In order to contribute to the dissemination and exploitation activities, the Centre will use the Open Sciences web site, the organization of practical seminars for teachers, public lectures during conferences etc.
