TITLE OF THE INITIATIVE:

Researcher´s Night, Noc vědců

BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE INITIATIVE:

This action aims at supporting the efforts undertaken since 2005 in order to bring researchers closer to the public at large, with a view to enhancing the important role of these researchers in society and in particular their relevance to the daily life of citizens.
Organizers and promoters of the event in the Czech Republic are:
• Observatory and Planetarium of Prague
• Faculty of Chemistry, Brno University of Technology
• Masaryk University
• Techmania Science Centre
• Faculty of Science, University of South Bohemia
• Czech Astronomical Society and its branches in the CR (about 20 observatories)
Researcher´s Night is a multiannual and Europe wide event organized within the initiative of the European Commission „Researchers in Europe“, organized every year since 2005.
Series of entertaining activities across Europe in one day and night.

OBJECTIVE OF THE INITIATIVE:

To bring researchers and general public together and open the labs and research work places to public.

TARGET GROUP OF THE EVENT:

General public

ACTIVITIES CARRIED OUT IN THE FRAMEWORK OF THE EVENT:

Experiments, entertainment, observations, discussions, lectures, seminars, exhibitions, theatre and music

IMPACT OF THE EVENT:

International – in 2009 took place in 30 European countries and more than 200 cities

RESULTS REACHED:

Interesting and very welcomed and appreciated by public; successful initiative since 2005

EVALUATION OF THE INITIATIVE:

Positive way of presenting modern science and research to public; good example of activities across Europe; effective PR and LLL initiative that has the potential to invoke the interest in science among people
