The study performed was carried out in order to develop a computer assisted guiding material to be used in removing misconceptions defined about change of state and analyze the effect of this material prepared in removing misconceptions seen in students. In order to achieve this goal two classes with a population of 27 students each at 8th class in Primary School were selected to constitute the test and control groups and computer assisted guiding material which was prepared was applied to the test group and conventional teaching was applied to the control group. A pretest and a posttest were prepared that consisted of different questions that addressed to measure the same target behaviours as the data collection means.
At the end of the applications performed it was found out that misconceptions of test group students in drawing of change of state graphics in pretest were mostly avoided. Some suggestions were made in relation with use of computer assisted guiding materialin teaching depending on the results obtained. Effective science teaching depends on students’ understanding of concepts in a way far from misconceptions. For this purpose misconceptions were determined and computer assisted supplementary teaching materials were prepared for removal of them in this study.
