National Green Box Environmental Education Project

Green Box Environmental Education Project which was created by Middle and Eastern Europe Environment Centre (REC) with the goal of providing environmental education and providing sustainable development was applied with cooperation of Minitry of National Education and Ministry of Environment and Forestry in Turkey.
Green Box Environmental Education Project is a multimedia education resource package which aims students to be informed about environmental protection and sustainable development and become conscious. The project aims to create environment knowledge and sensitivity.
Teachers give education on how Green Box can be used in education programmes within the scope of the project. These education programmes can be given in four permenant education centres in four cities or through State Railways Conference Train which is tu
Green Box was designed to encourage certain values and behaviours instead of filling students with theoretical information on the subjects it contained.
Green Box makes connections with environment in every lesson given by educators and helps them to develop solutions together with their students . The goal of 2008–2009 term is to create 6000 Green Boxes, to educate 5600 teachers and to reach 600.000 students.
The Green Wagon is equipped with computers and every kind of equipment educators may need. This characteristic of the project is importatnt because it is special to Turkey.
Green Wagon started its journey from Haydarpaşa on 25 April 2008 and stopped in Malatya, Elazığ, Muş and Van for a week. Green Box was introduced to the teachers who received necessary trainings from project educators. Green Wagon is going to restart its journey on 10 April 2009 and meet teachers in Yozgat, Niğde, Mersin and Adana.
