This paper presents the design and development of a multimedia system which serves as a bilingual chemistry educational tool for deaf students. Details of the architecture of the tool, its functionality and formative evaluation results are also presented. Furthermore the process for deriving the chemistry terminology in Greek Sign Language used throughout the tool is briefly described.
The multimedia system including a working chemistry terminology in Greek Sign Language (GSL) is able to provide new educational opportunities to deaf students in order to increase their social independence and welfare.
