Life long learning: which prospects?
Sergio Angori
Paper from the National Journal: ‘Prospettiva EP’ (Perspective of Permanent Education)
Italian
The paper describes and comments on the activities that are carried out in Italy for adult education, under the guidelines of the agreement between the State and Provinces ( 2nd march 2000). They are grouped into three areas:
1)Education of CTP centers (Permanent Territorial Centers). These mainly organize courses for adults that want to get a certificate of education or a professional qualification and for foreign citizen interested in social and linguistic integration.
2)‘Non-formal’ adult education. These activities are courses about various and different subjects, from professional education to cultural animation, third-age university etc.
3)Formal education. This mainly consists of specialization courses for workers that wants to get a promotion in their professional sphere or update their specific culture.
The author underlines that courses of lifelong learning are often a benefit for high-specialized workers, while they are not accessible to workers dedicated to low-qualified activities. This fact is a real problem because lifelong learning aims to increase the culture of each person, but, in fact, it evidences the cultural differences between people.
The document does not mention scientific doctrines while speaking about adult education but offers a good synthesis of the initiatives carried out in Italy to improve the culture of adults.
