DESCRIPTION OF CONTENTS:

This study has been carried out to find out the effects of conceptual changing texts and concept mapping on student achievement and their attitudes towards general chemistry course.
72 students from the department of primary teaching at Marmara University Atatürk Education Faculty were involved in the study.
In this study two groups (experimental & control) for experimental design (pre-test, posttest) was used. In the control group only traditional teaching method was used, but in the experimental group both conceptual changing texts and concept mapping were used as teaching methods. Both groups were asked to complete conceptual success test on the subjects of acid-bases and chemistry attitude scale. In order to measure the level of students’ logical thinking, “logical thinking ability test” was also applied to both groups initially.

COMMENTS ON THIS DOCUMENT:

The conclusions of the study suggest that conceptual changing text and concept mapping were found to be effective on students’ understanding acid-base concepts, however, they were found to be non-effective regarding students’ attitudes.
The study is useful for teachers and academicians working on misconceptions and achievement.
