The European Social Fund (ESF) is one of the EU's Structural Funds, set up to reduce differences in prosperity and living standards across EU Member States and regions, and therefore promoting economic and social cohesion.
The ESF is devoted to promoting employment in the EU. It helps Member States make Europe's workforce and companies better equipped to face new, global challenges.
Majority of Czech regions is entitled to carry out projects financed from the ESF. The ESF Operational Programme Education for Competitiveness (OP VK) is realized by Czech Ministry for Education Youth and Sports (MEYS).
The amount of financial resources devoted to the OP VK in the period 2007-2013 is 2 151,4 mil €, 85% is financed through ESF and 15% through MEYS, state budget.
The ESF Operational Programme Education for Competitiveness (OP VK) is divided in to 4 priority axis that’s objectives are to support and improve:
• Initial education
• Tertiary education, research and development
• Further Education
• Strategy of Lifelong learning
All regions of the Czech Republic except capitol city Prague
All learners and teachers from preschool age till the “third” age.

Management of the Operational program OP VK, launching calls, evaluation of the projects proposals, administration of running projects, evaluation of the projects results
Tremendous impact on the whole education system in the Czech Republic
Currently a lot of projects are running in the whole regions of the Czech Republic.
After concluding this programme, in 2013, the results will be known.
The whole Czech citizens appreciate this EU initiative to co-finance improvement of particular sectors,(e.g. education) in less developed regions of the member state.
