TYPE OF PRODUCT:

Paper on the national portal of teachers “Apprendimento Cooperativo” (Cooperative Learning)

LANGUAGE/S OF PRODUCT:

Italian

DESCRIPTION OF CONTENTS:

The aim of the paper is to supply a general protocol for monitoring the learning process in a class. After having established that:- knowledge becomes competence only if the mental act of comprehension happens;- quality and depth of comprehension (competence) must be prioritised with respect to quantity and number of topics;the author suggests an evaluation procedure consisting of:1) multiple choice tests (4 alternatives) for testing knowledge;2) multiple choice test with explanation of answers for testing comprehension-competence.The procedure must be repeated periodically in sequence and should be applied by all the teachers of the class. The paper has general significance, but specific examples are given on chemistry topics. Collaboration among teachers is crucial to significantly improve learning in a class. This collaboration must be related to teaching and evaluation methodologies more than subject contents. In schools with a high degree of teachers co-operation students are found to reach excellent levels of learning.
