TITLE OF THE INITIATIVE:

16th Training Seminar on Chemistry Education

BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE INITIATIVE:

The “Association of Greek Chemists” organizes every year a two-day seminar on chemistry education, focusing on secondary chemistry courses. The seminar is attended by a large number (over 400) of chemistry teachers from all over Greece. Complete proceedings of seminars (PDF form) are found in the web site of the “Association of Greek Chemists”.

OBJECTIVE OF THE INITIATIVE:

The general goal of the seminar series is to provide educational training to active secondary chemistry teachers in Greece.
The seminars aim to:
• Bring closer mature and novice researchers, pre- and in-servise chemistry teachers, as well as people who shape the educational policy in the Chemistry field in order to discuss new and older ideas about Chemistry education.
• Present and discuss the work of researchers and the possibilities of its exploitation in the educational praxis
In this context, new teaching approaches are presented and discussed during the seminars

TARGET GROUP OF THE EVENT:

Chemistry graduates, active chemistry teachers

ACTIVITIES CARRIED OUT IN THE FRAMEWORK OF THE EVENT:

Oral presentations – Discussion groups

IMPACT OF THE EVENT:

The seminars have found a considerable response by chemistry graduates as well as active chemistry teachers. For example, the 16th seminar was attended by 396 pre- and in-servise chemistry teachers.

RESULTS REACHED:

The evaluation form of 16th training seminar was supplemented by 225 of 396 participants, and the seminar was judged satisfactory. The majority of participants wished the evolution of the seminar to a conference. The presentations concerning laboratory activities and applications of CIT are characterized as more interesting.
