DESCRIPTION OF CONTENTS:

In this study in which it is aimed to determine understanding levels and misconceptions of high school students about chemical bonds a test that consisted of 25 questions and two sections was prepared for collecting data. 20 of the questions in the test were multiple choice questions and the rest were those which required written answer. Reliability coefficient for multiple choice section of the test was calculated as rx=0.72. Pilot scheme was applied for both sections of the test and their final form was given. The test that was prepared was applied to 120 high school 3rd class students. Percentage ratios of correct, false and empty answers to multiple choice questions in the test were calculated, and the questions that required written answer were collected under the categories of understanding, partially understanding, specific misconception partially understanding, misconception and no understanding/empty and their percentages were calculated.

COMMENTS ON THIS DOCUMENT:

It was determined that the students generally had inadequate understandings about bonds and they had misconceptions especially about bond polarity, ionic bond, covalent bond, electron sharing and microscopic display of bonds according to the results obtained.Determination of misconceptions and application of methods in order to remove them is important. From that point this study is one which makes contribution to the field.
