It is important that teachers understand the concepts completely and correctly in order to define the miscoceptions of students and remove them. Form master candidates’ understanding levels of some fundemental chemistry concepts (physical and chemical transformation, evaporation and condensation , element-compound and boiling) at primary school level and the misconceptions met were desired to be defined with the study performed.
200 teacher candidates who study at first and fourth classes of primary school form master department in KTU Fatih Education Faculty participated in the study. A test that consisted of 27 questions was developed in order to determine understanding levels and misconceptions of teacher candidates. The test was composed of 20 multiple choice and 7 open ended questions.
At the end of the study it was determined that form master candidates didn’t have enough understanding about these concepts and they had misconceptions. Determination of misconceptions of form masters that will give science lessons in future has an important effect value for removal of those because misconceptions have an important place.
