Chemistry in Science Fiction

The Scientist in Science Fiction

Step 3 - Activities (Classroom/Group Activity)

Most of the named films are a good starting point to trigger thinking about and discussing the role and function of scientists today. Starting with the questions of activity one and comparing films from the 50s with films of today (especially the TV series) show – in a very simplified way – a shift from the lone male scientist to mixed teams of scientists working on a common problem.

This comparison again can be used as a starting point to check the films against real life. In this context students might visit universities, research labs, or industries and interview scientists and assistants about their work.
